BIOGRAPHY


Born and raised in London, tenor Ted Black is currently based in Graz, as a soloist at Opera Graz. He trained in the young artist programme of the Wiener Staatsoper, where he sang many roles including Roderigo (Otello), Tebaldo (I Vespri Siciliani), Young Lover (Il Tabarro), Ulrich Eißlinger (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), as well as Belmont’s (Die Entführung aux dem Serail) and Erik (Der Fliegende Holländer) in performances for children. His roles this season in Graz include Walther von der Vogelweide (Tannhäuser), Ferrando (Così fan Tutte), and Lysander (A Midsummer Night’s Dream). He is also a very active singer of Lieder and concert works, and last season performed with his duo partner Dylan Perez their all French recital ‘Une Saison en Enfer’ at the Musée d’Orsay at at Opéra de Lille, before bringing the programme to the Oxford International Song Festival later this year. Another highlight of last season is a gala concert at the Royaumont Abbey with sopranos Natalie Dessay and Véronique Gens.

Last summer, Ted recorded his first full length studio album, Hold Fast to Dreams, a recording of the songs of Florence Price. He can also be heard with  Dylan Perez, on the album ‘Voyage à Paris’, on the French record label, B-Records.
